New York, USA: Pfizer Inc. today announced it has agreed to sell rights to the purple pill, known as Nexium, for up to $5 million to US wholesalers and the pharmaceutical industry.
Nexium is a prescription drug used to treat heartburn, acid reflux, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The drug is available under the brand name Esomeprazole. Pfizer has also received FDA approval for the drug, which is used to treat stomach ulcers, acid reflux, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Nexium belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Nexium works by decreasing stomach acid production and helps prevent the acid from being digested in the esophagus, which may lead to heartburn.
Pfizer has a global portfolio of over-the-counter (OTC) prescription drugs, including: Nexium (esomeprazole), Prilosec, Protonix, Prevacid, Nexium 24HR, Prilosec CR, Prevacid DS, and Prevacid Nex, which are available as generic prescription drugs.
